One of the things I love about teaching and instructional design is that there is always more to learn, and very early on in my career I realized that I had a lot to learn about building inclusive learning experiences.
I was fortunate to attend Cal State Northridge’s Assistive Technology Conference in 2019 and it absolutely kick started my passion for accessibility. It was like unlocking a door to an entirely new world that had not even been mentioned in my own masters program. What an incredible blind spot!
Now, with rule changes related to accessibility coming into effect, teaching accessibility is more important than ever in order to achieve learning experiences that work for everyone!
Below, you’ll find some of the work I’ve done with accessibility, including an asynchronous course, a free checklist that I like to share, presentations, blog posts, videos, and more.

Digital Accessibility Principles Course
This is a two-hour asynchronous course for absolute beginners to digital accessibility that I built for partner Novare’s Niche platform. This course is licensed out to libraries of all types. I also have a version of this accessibility course that I sell to individuals in my elearning shop.
Checklist
It’s hard to find a good accessibility checklist that isn’t too detailed or too simple. Here, I’ve created my own checklist that has just the facts along with links to more information. I regularly distribute this checklist to my students at San Diego as well as post it in the show notes of my accessibility videos on YouTube. This checklist is a Microsoft Word document, not a PDF. That’s intentional! PDFs are difficult to make accessible, while Microsoft Office products generally have very good accessibility.
Conference Presentations
I’ve presented several times on accessibility at elearning conferences. Here are two presentations from conferences put on by The Learning Guild. I received very good feedback from attendees at both.

Blog Posts
I’ve had a blog since 2016 or so, and I’ve written and published many posts on accessibility, many of which feature video demos.
YouTube Videos
It’s hard to find good accessibility content on YouTube! A lot of people can find digital accessibility to be overwhelming. I specialize in creating content that is approachable for people that are new to accessibility, as well as those looking to level up their skills. I create content on accessibility in specialized elearning software, Articualte Storyline and Rise. I also keep up with developments in accessibility requirements, such as the rule changes that affect state and local governments.
